The Organ in the 1970s

This photograph was taken in the late 1970s, when the Organ was little more than a shell comprising its case and the large, difficult-to-remove 32ft case pipes. The Great arch and the console area were boarded up, as most of the movable parts had been taken to the Petersfield factory of Henry Willis and Sons. This was fortunate as practically everything seen in this photograph, save for the brick walls of the hall, was lost in the fire.

A couple of photographs which give a good impression of the scale of the facade.

A close-up of the pattern on the 32ft front.

Here is another photograph from the 1970s.
